Far from the crowds, come and discover
a region of Provence filled with
natural and man-made wonders: olives,
vineyards, lavender, apricots
and thousands of years of history.
Walking through the area you will
discover not only the famous wine
villages of Gigondas, Vacqueyras and
Beaumes-de-Venise but also lesser
known wonders, all nestled under
Mount Ventoux. This holiday starts and finishes in Avignon whose medieval Palais des Papes was the home of seven French popes. The walk proper starts in Seguret, voted one of France's most beautiful villages, and goes on to Gigondas, a village rising up from the vineyards with its 11th century church. For the following two days you will be in the heart of the Dentelles de Montmirail and the foothills of Mont Ventoux, the "geant de Provence". On the way back to Avignon you will be walking from Malaucene towards Vaison la Romaine, a great day of discovery as you pass through the beautiful area around the village of Crestet. Vaison is a bustling old village of steep cobbled streets and alleys perched on a hill above the river Ouveze. You should arrive in good time to view the Gallo-Roman remains or perhaps you might prefer to take a cooling drink at one of the many bars that line the square near your hotel.
