![]() Sheltered by the Vosges mountains,
Alsace enjoys practically
the lowest rainfall in France and is
blessed with an almost continental
climate; sunny, hot and dry. This is a circular walking holiday through the Kaysersberg Valley to the east of the picturesque town of Colmar. The walk stretches into the foothills of the Vosges and back to the Rhine valley, taking in some of the most attractive medieval wine villages of the region. Whilst on the whole this is moderately easy walking country on well marked and maintained tracks at mid-mountain level, there are a number of hilly, climbing stretches. You wend your way from village to village through woodland and rolling hills laced with flower covered valleys and attractive streams. The holiday generally starts in Kaysersberg, a charming small town with streets lined with medieval and 16th century houses; in summer and autumn the courtyards are full of colourful flowers. The walk continues through the oak forests to Lapoutroie, famous for its Munster cheese. La Bonhomme comes next followed by Orbey, Labaroche and, finally, Niedermorschwihr where the hotel owners produce their own wine. The hotels you will be using are small, family run establishments providing the best of French country hospitality. Price per person (for 2 people sharing) - £430.
Dates between March and November 2008Includes - 6 nights accommodation in 2/3star hotels with ensuite facilities, breakfast, - 5 picnic lunches, 5 dinners - parking for car/transfer from local rail station - baggage transfer - maps and descriptive notes. ![]() |
